Hey There, Future Hypnosis Master!
Ever had one of those days where you just canât get past the âdeep breathâ part of your session? Good news: thatâs totally fine. In fact, if you only get as far as basic relaxation, youâve already done your client (and yourself) a world of good. đ§ââď¸

This week, we’re diving into Day 2 of the TFH Course: Basic Relaxation Techniques. Yep, that same “relax and release” vibe we all crave at 3 p.m. on a Wednesday when lifeâs just a little too much. But seriouslyârelaxation is the foundation of a great hypnotic session, and hereâs a not-so-secret secret: even if your session doesnât go any further than this, your client can still experience incredible results.

Why Relaxation is Hypnosis Gold đ°
I know, I know. Everyone talks about getting deep into the trance state, but sometimes getting there starts with just chilling out. Relaxation alone can lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety, and help clients feel more in control of their mental health. And guess what? Even if they think nothing’s happening, their subconscious is doing some serious heavy lifting behind the scenes.

Advanced Relaxation Techniques đ§
Letâs spice things up a bit. Sure, a few deep breaths are nice, but your clients deserve more. Here are a few advanced tricks to help you make relaxation next level:
1. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), but make it fancy!
Walk your client through the usual “tense and release” routine, but get specific. Have them start with their eyebrows. That’s rightâmake them scrunch those bad boys up until they look concerned about nothing, then release. Work your way down, even to the toes. Extra credit if you make a bad joke about them wiggling their toes to release âall that life stress.â

2. 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding with a Twist
You know the drill: 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, etc. But why not add a hypnotic element? While theyâre grounding, use the moment to sneak in a few hypnotic suggestions. Something like, âAnd as you notice these five objects, youâll find your mind gently relaxing into a peaceful place, like… somewhere without emails.â đŻ

3. Breathing in Color
Instead of the usual âinhale, exhale,â have your clients breathe in their favorite color and exhale stress. Bonus points if you get them to pick ridiculous colors like âneon mangoâ or âsparkling lavender,â just for a laughâand yes, laughter is an excellent relaxation tool, too.

Practical Examples to Use Right Now đ§
Want to add some of these to your next session? Hereâs how you can work them in without feeling like youâre reading from a script:
- During Intake: If a client mentions high anxiety, suggest starting with a simple relaxation practice before diving into the deep stuff. Remember, even if they donât think theyâre âdoing it right,â their mind is probably already unwinding in ways they wonât fully realize until later.
- Between Sessions: Send clients home with a relaxation exercise like the 5-4-3-2-1 technique to practice on their own. Itâs something they can take away from the session that feels like progress, even if theyâre not ready for deeper work yet.
- For Yourself: Letâs be real, sometimes we need these too. Try the eyebrow tension thing on your next stressful day and see how it feels. (Spoiler: Itâs hilarious.)
