Hey Hypno-Fam!
Letâs talk about something a little tender today:
For some clients, itâs an awkward whisper.
For others, itâs a full-blown identity crisis.
And for trauma survivors? It can be layered with guilt, confusion, and a whole lot of shame.
But hereâs the truth your client probably needs to hear:
Desire doesnât vanish randomly.
It disappears for a reason.
Hypnotherapy is uniquely positioned to help uncover that reason and gently begin to heal it.

đȘ Trauma & the Nervous System
Before you even mention libido, remember this:
The nervous system prioritizes safety over intimacy.
If your clientâs body still thinks the world is unsafe, or that they themselves are unsafe, desire will not bloom.
This is also extremely relevant for clients who struggle with erectile dysfunction. The problem? Many penis owners donât recognize just how emotional their private parts are. Underneath that lack of sexual drive, are unment safety needs.
You canât suggest someone into sexual empowerment if their subconscious is still frozen in fear.
Regulation always comes before reawakening.
𧱠Start with Permission and Safety
Before you go anywhere near the idea of desire, begin with:
| Â |
âItâs okay to be exactly where you are.â
âYou donât need to fix this today. Youâre not broken.â
âWeâre going to listen to what your body is asking for.â
| Â |
Normalize the protective function of disinterest. Many trauma survivors have internalized the belief that their lack of desire is a failure. But often, itâs a sign that the body is trying to protect itself from shame, touch, coercion, or emotional overwhelm.
đ§ââïž Tip: Anchor Into
Present Body Sensations
Help clients re-establish a relationship with their body that is non-sexual and safe.
| Â |
Use body scans, gentle breathwork, and somatic suggestions like:
âNotice what it feels like to be in your body and feel⊠okay.â
âYou are allowed to be here, in your skin, without needing to perform.â
| Â |
| Â |
Before desire can return, the body must know it isnât being asked to do anything unsafe.
| Â |
đ Explore the Story Beneath the Symptom
Using regression or projective techniques, allow the subconscious to speak:
âWhen did desire start to change?â
âWhat would your lack of desire say, if it had a voice?â
âWhat are you afraid might happen if you felt fully alive in your body?â
| Â |
Often, the client will uncover:
- A history of religious shame or family expectations
- A trauma event that made intimacy feel threatening
- A hidden resentment or emotional disconnection in their relationship
- The belief that desire must look a certain way because of perfectionism or comparison
| Â |
âïž Use Positive, Permission-Based Suggestions
Rather than saying âYou desire more sex,â which can backfire, try:
âYou are reconnecting to yourself at your pace, in your way.â
âYou are learning how to feel joy, safety, and aliveness in your body.â
âYou trust your body to tell you when itâs ready, and you listen with compassion.â
| Â |
Give them a roadmap that doesnât require performance or pressure.
| Â |
đ§ Bonus Technique:
Reinforce Identity Outside of Performance
Low desire often comes with a bruised identity. Clients may wonder:
âWho am I if I donât want sex?â
âAm I unlovable, broken, a bad partner?â
| Â |
In trance, help them form new anchors to their worth, identity, and value that have nothing to do with desire. Use this space to help them explore sexual expression outside of the conventional attitudes towards sex. We arenât sex machines, we are creative, expressive creatures looking for connection!
This opens space for desire to return naturally, as a gift rather than a demand.
