Hey There, Hypno-Wizards!
Okay, so last week we talked about helping clients envision their dream life, which is awesome—but what if we want to take that vision and go even deeper? I’m talking about really getting to the roots of their obstacles and helping them tackle the barriers standing in the way of that perfect life they’re picturing.
This is where targeted hypnosis techniques come in. If you want to go beyond just creating the vision and start uncovering what’s holding them back, these advanced methods will get you there. Think of it as adding the “secret sauce” to your sessions—and yeah, it’s totally going to make you look like a mind-reading genius (no pressure though).

However, this technique is not for the faint of heart. As hypnotherapists we need courage and cunning to dive into a client’s trauma and start cutting away the lies they tell themselves. Last week we discussed how it’s important to give a client a vision of the future they want to achieve. As we go deeper, it’s imperative to also give them this experience in the past as well. These techniques require direct and deliberate guidance from the therapist, pulling back false-beliefs and damaged self-concept and replacing it with self-empathy and the truth that they are strong and capable.
Here are three advanced techniques you can start using to take your clients’ vision deeper:

1. Hypnotic Regression for Re-imprinting
Ah, the ol’ regression. We’ve all got baggage (hello, unresolved childhood issues), but this technique allows you to guide clients back to the source of their limiting beliefs. Whether it’s something they learned in grade school or an event they didn’t even realize was important, regression gets them there. Once you’ve pinpointed the root, help them re-imprint the experience with a more empowering belief.

 |
Practical Tip: Be gentle—no one likes to feel like they’re being dragged back to a kindergarten trauma they didn’t ask for. But once you help them reframe it, have them imagine how their future life will change with this new belief in place. Trust me, they’ll thank you later.

2. Parts Therapy (Ego State Therapy)
Ever feel like your client has two (or ten) different parts of themselves at war with each other? Well, you’re not wrong. Parts therapy allows you to have a good ol’ chat with those internal factions—whether it’s the part of them that wants to take over the world or the part that would rather stay curled up in bed with a blanket (we get it). By having these parts dialogue with each other, you can bring them into harmony and get everyone on board with the client’s vision.
|
|
Practical Tip: Picture a “boardroom meeting” inside your client’s mind, where all their different parts get to speak. Guide them to a resolution that gets everybody working together toward their desired future. And no, you don’t need to supply the donuts.

3. Behavioral Rehearsal in Trance
This is for the action-takers in the crowd. Behavioral rehearsal helps clients mentally practice the steps needed to achieve their goals. Whether it’s getting up early, nailing that presentation, or not eating that extra slice of cake (okay, maybe two slices), they can rehearse those actions in trance before they take them in real life. It’s like role-playing their future success—minus the awkward “what do I do with my hands” part. This becomes especially important when re-imagining the past and how it would feel to respond differently to the abuse they experienced. Or imagining how they would feel or behave if superman busted through the door and let justice be served.
|
 |
Practical Tip: After they’ve rehearsed, have them visualize the long-term benefits of these new behaviors. Fast forward to six months from now—what do they see? How are they feeling? This makes the change feel real and achievable, and it’ll motivate them to make it happen.

So, next time your client is stuck or can’t quite get past those nagging doubts, try using these techniques to dig deeper. You’ll help them uncover the real blocks, break them down, and get even closer to that life they’ve been dreaming of. And if nothing else, hey, at least you’ll look like you really know what you’re doing!
